Definition
6, a unified marketing agency, has been hired by Locomotive
Distribution, Inc. for an innovative multi-tiered campaign for
the new feature-length hip hop horror film, executive produced by
Spike Lee, entitled, "You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Kills You." The
agency will blend social media activation and publicity to promote
the film's premiere at the Williamsburg International Film Festival
- WILLiFEST - which was rated by MovieMaker Magazine as one of the
Top 20 Coolest Film Festivals in the World in 2010. In addition,
Definition 6 also handled the film's post-production work
at its New York studio which included editing, sound design,
original composition, and mixing.
Locomotive Distribution will exclusively handle
sales and distribution for the film which is available on a
worldwide basis.
The unique partnership between Definition 6 and Locomotive
Distribution reflects a new film industry trend utilizing social
media channels and media relations to build buzz and create
industry and consumer awareness for a film before its sale to
distributors. Audiences, specifically the elusive 18-34 male
demographic, access and share content in real-time with their peers
consistently and this multi-tiered partnership will bring the
content to them before the film's premiere at
WILLiFEST.
"By having the PR, social media, and even the post-production
teams all under the same roof we're experiencing true synergy
between the producers and marketers of the movie. This is
proving to be a huge asset for the overall success of this
project," says Gabriel Gornell, Chief Creative Officer, Locomotive
Distribution. "We simply couldn't have asked for better
partners than Michael Pinckney and Definition 6."
"You're
Nobody 'Til Somebody Kills You" was written and directed by
Michael "Boogie" Pinckney, Founder and Managing Director of Black
Noise Media, a full service production house based in New York
City. Michael began his career 12 years ago under the tutelage of
filmmaker Spike Lee and soon after joined The Director's Guild of
America. He has more than 10 years of experience as an assistant
director on films, such as "The 25th Hour," "7th Heaven," "The Best
Man," "Law & Order," "Inside Man," and the Academy
Award© nominated film "Precious," in which he was
nominated for a Directors Guild of America Award.
"We were thrilled to work on this movie, which features a
talented cast and local hip hop icons Big Daddy Kane, Doug E. Fresh
and Ed Lover," says Gil Wolchock, Group Account Director at
Definition 6. "Partnering with Locomotive Distribution for
publicity and post-production work on a full-length film expands
our reach into the entertainment industry and allows us to leverage
our unified marketing expertise to develop a unique strategy for
Locomotive."
The film will premiere at the Williamsburg International Film
Festival - WILLiFEST - in Brooklyn on Friday, Sept. 23, 2011 at the
Knitting
Factory.
Along with the full line-up of film screenings and festival
activities, WILLiFEST offers educational panels featuring film
experts and thought leaders. Definition 6 expert-in-residence
and entertainment industry veteran, Frank Radice, will host "The
Sound and the Fury: Music for TV & Film from Some of the
Industry's Best - From Sonic Branding to Creating the Mood." As a
panelist, Michael "Boogie" Pinckney, director of "You're Nobody
'Til Somebody Kills You," will explore the critical role music
played in the film. Locomotive Distribution will also host a panel
to discuss distribution for independent production and will provide
independent producers with a realistic understanding of how the
global markets work, and how to best attract sales and distribution
interest. Full panel information and details can be found on
the WILLiFEST website.

About "You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Kills You"
"You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Kills You" is a Hip Hop
thriller Executive Produced by Spike Lee and written and directed
by his protégé Michael A. Pinckney. "You're Nobody 'Til Somebody
Kills You" is an action packed and gritty story of two New York
City homicide detectives that are forced into the high-stakes world
of the hip hop industry. A complex web of murder, sex, money and
music unfolds as the homicide detectives track a serial killer with
an appetite for some of hip hop's biggest stars. Detective Charles
Johnson, a twenty-seven year veteran of the New York City Police
force, is on the heels of retirement when a killer strikes. The
murders are not random acts of violence however; they're by the
hands of a serial killer whose victims happen to be some of the Rap
industry's biggest stars. In an effort to catch the killer, Joseph
Francelli, a young and hip detective from the special divisions
unit is brought onto the case to assist Detective Johnson in
protecting Manchild, a rising star, struggling with the decline of
hip hop, causing him to re-evaluate his life. The film concludes
with the detectives bringing the killer to justice in this urban
thriller with an unexpected twist at the end, in true Hitchcockian
